Environment:

Formed along with graftonite, probably by exsolution from triphylite, in complex zoned granite pegmatites.

IMA Status:

Valid Species (Pre-IMA) 1868

Locality:

Gory Sowie (Michelsdorf), in the Eulengebirge, Silesia, Poland. Link to MinDat.org Location Data.

Name Origin:

From the Greek for "flesh" and "view," in allusion to its apparent flesh-red color [due to intimate intergrowth with graftonite].
